Karate
Program 1: Karate-do/Aikijutsu

Focus is on a style of karate-do called Goju Ryu (Hard Soft Style). Various blocks, grabs, strikes, holds, and takedowns are the primary study here. An emphasis is placed on goshinjutsu (life protection arts)-skills used to defend. Beginners will start with basic principles designed to establish a strong foundation for progression toward increasingly more advanced instruction. Enrollment in Program 2 and Program 3 is recommended. Students can start anytime.

Classes are twice per week, one hour each.
Students are welcome to train on their own when classes are not in session--just call ahead. Adult students may come to as many classes as they can for their belt level, at no extra charge.
Niei Chi
Program 2: Tai Chi/QiGong/Pa Kua

Internal energy arts. Instruction is on smooth, flowing movements that are timed with a student's breathing. Concepts of self-healing, stress management, relaxation, and self-awareness are focused on. Self-defense is an exponent of this instruction. Due to the slower pace of this program, progress will require patience and consistency, though the rewards are powerful. We recommend a minimum 6-month membership to start. Program 1 is an excellent complement here. Students can start anytime.

A basic understanding of stances, timing, breathing, etiquette, and instruction is required to maintain a safe and conductive environment. Beginners start with the staff (bo) and the stick (yantok). Fundamentals will be focused on to establish a good foundation to progress confidently toward higher levels of instruction. The primary style here is Goju Kobudo. To refine oneself
To think and act with ancient wisdom

Most of what we listen to is the mind's abstract monologue. Our true successes are often led away by momentary whims. Martial arts is many things, one of which is its emphasis on understanding the nature of conflict through studying it. To overcome the opponent inside is to overcome any obstacle outside. All change begins with an initial leap. The way is in training.

Words of Wisdom from our Teachers

·"Karate is a total commitment. There is no halfway measure. Either you do it or you don't. Nothing is impossible!" Sensei Chojun Miyagi

·"The goal of many sports is competition; however, there is is a sense of entertainment of practicing a hobby. On the other hand, karate is the fight against one's self without having an opponent or object to go up against." Sensei Gogen Yamaguchi

·"The dojo becomes, emotionally, the battlefield. The mental training involved in the kata toughens one to fight life--because that is where the battle is." Sensei Richard Kim

·"The karate philosphy of calmness and confidence is the antithesis of agression in humanity." Sensei Peter Urban

·"To the questions of your life, you are the answer; to the problems of your life, you are the solution." Sensei Wallace Platt
